Choosing the right software is a major decision. Let’s answer the tough questions together.
Choosing a new project management platform is a major decision. We understand that as a project leader, you have numerous questions about cost, security, the complexity of implementation, and the real-world benefits for your team.
On this page, we’ve gathered the most common questions we receive from professionals just like you. Our goal is to provide you with complete, honest, and transparent information so you can make a fully informed decision.
Implementation & Onboarding
How difficult is it to start working with Cable Pilot? How long will the implementation take?
It’s much simpler than you might think. Thanks to our AI Importer, you can upload your existing cable list and have a working system with your data on the same day. A full implementation, including team training and process alignment, can be completed in a matter of weeks, not months. We provide a comprehensive guide to a fast start and support you at every stage.

Do I need to reformat my existing Excel files to fit your template?
No. Our intelligent importer is designed to understand the structure of most cable lists. You upload your file “as-is,” and the system automatically suggests how to map your columns to the corresponding fields. The system adapts to your data, not the other way around.

What if we are already in the middle of a project? Can we implement Cable Pilot now?
Absolutely. You can import your current cable schedule, reflecting the most up-to-date statuses, and immediately begin tracking all remaining work in Cable Pilot. This allows you to gain immediate control and transparency over the most complex, final stages of your project.
What kind of support do you provide after the purchase?
We don’t just sell a license, we become your partner. Every client is assigned a dedicated implementation manager, given access to our complete knowledge base, and provided with responsive technical support to resolve any issues that arise.
Cost & ROI
How much does Cable Pilot cost? Is the price based on the number of users?
Our pricing is designed to scale with your project and team. The final cost is based on two simple factors: the license type that fits your needs (like Business or Enterprise) and the number of users in specific roles. This ensures you only pay for what you use. For a precise quote tailored to your project, the best next step is a personalized proposal.
How quickly will our investment in Cable Pilot pay for itself?
Our experience shows that the system typically pays for itself within the first few months of use through direct savings from reduced rework, eliminated idle time, and the hours your engineers save on manual reporting. You can calculate an approximate ROI for your specific case using our calculator.

Functionality & Capabilities
Can Cable Pilot completely replace our current tools like Excel and paper logs?
Yes, for managing electrical work, it’s designed to be a complete replacement. Think of Excel as a powerful universal tool, like a Swiss Army knife—versatile, but not ideal for surgery. Cable Pilot is the surgical scalpel, purpose-built with a deep understanding of shipbuilding’s unique complexities, like physical hierarchy and cable lifecycles. It solves the specific, high-stakes problems that generic tools can’t.

How difficult is it for my field team (installers, inspectors) to use?
Our mobile application was designed for simplicity. If your employees can use a smartphone, they can work in Cable Pilot. Scanning a QR code and tapping a single button to update a status is intuitive and takes seconds.
- See how it works in our “Day in the Life” of an installer article.
Does the mobile app work without an internet connection on-site?
Absolutely. We designed the app for the reality of the shipyard, where reliable internet is a luxury, not a guarantee. Your team can download their work packages in the morning, work completely offline all day in the deepest parts of the vessel, and the app will automatically sync all their progress the moment they reconnect. No interruptions, no lost data.
Can the system be adapted to our unique work processes?
Yes. Cable Pilot offers an ideal balance: we provide a ready, optimized workflow “out of the box” for a quick start, but as an administrator, you can easily customize, add, or change statuses and stages to ensure the system 100% matches your methodology.
How does the system help manage multiple contractors on a single site?
Through a flexible Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) system. You can configure access for each contractor to see only their pool of tasks, hiding all other project information. This ensures both coordination and security.

Our project is constantly changing. How does Cable Pilot help manage document revisions?
This is one of our key functions. Our AI Version Comparison tool allows you to upload two files and instantly receive a report on all changes. This completely eliminates the risk of missing a critical revision.
What types of reports can I create? Can I customize them?
The system allows you to create a wide variety of reports using powerful filtering and grouping tools. You can easily prepare a customized report on progress for a specific zone, system, or contractor and export it to PDF or CSV.

Concepts & Technology
Is the “Digital Twin” just a fancy 3D model?
No. For us, a “Digital Twin” is primarily about the completeness and interconnectedness of data. It is a living digital copy of your project where every cable “knows” its exact location, status, history, and what equipment it’s connected to. Visualization is just one way to display this rich data model.
- Learn more in our Guide to Building a Digital Twin.
What are “Cable Points” (CP) and how are they calculated?
This is our unique, standardized unit for measuring the workload of a task. It is calculated automatically based on a cable’s objective parameters (cross-section, number of cores, etc.). CP allows you to accurately measure and compare the complexity of different tasks, not just their quantity.
Can we adjust the CP calculation to fit our internal standards?
Yes. The system allows the use of Adjustment Factors to adapt the baseline workload to the real-world conditions of your site or to your internal estimation standards.
- Learn more in our Guide to Adjustment Factors.
Does the system help comply with industry standards like DNV or IEC?
Yes. You can build standard requirements (like cable segregation rules) into the attributes of your objects. The system helps control their implementation and, more importantly, provides a complete “chain of evidence” (audit trail) for all completed work and inspections, which significantly simplifies passing audits.
Is your system only for shipbuilding?
Our primary expertise is shipbuilding, and the system is perfectly tailored to its complexity. However, the Cable Pilot architecture is so flexible that it can be successfully adapted for any large-scale industrial project with complex electrical installations, such as factories, data centers, and power plants.
Security & Integration
Where is our data stored, and how secure is it?
Your data is stored on the secure servers of leading global cloud providers, in compliance with the strictest security protocols. We provide data backup and encryption to guarantee its safety and confidentiality.
Is integration with CAD systems or our ERP planned?
Yes. Our development roadmap includes the creation of a public API, which will allow for seamless integration between Cable Pilot and key external systems. Even today, our import/export tools enable effective data exchange.
